First pageResumen

Abstract
This study analyzes the effect of district magnitude on party system fragmentation under the redistricting reform approved in 2026. Drawing on 504 deputy races between 1989 and 2025, it shows that the relationship follows diminishing marginal returns and that the reform is zero-sum in seats but negative-sum in fragmentation and candidates, with losses concentrated in the south and gains in the central zone.
